Great news for residents of Hillock Green! Announcement of seven new stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) scheduled to start passenger service on June 23 comes from Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat on March 5. Hillock Green is 3 minutes walk from Lentor MRT which is on the Thomson East Coast Line.
Stage 4 of the TEL consists in the new stations: Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap, and Bayshore. A major turning point, this growth promises to improve the whole travel experience.
Commuters are treated especially before the official opening. During an exclusive launch event, you may preview and travel around these seven stations for free on June 21 from 10am to 9pm. As the day gets closer, further information will be posted on the social media pages of the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
These extra features could cut TEL trip time by up to 50%. Imagine this: compared to the present forty-minute bus and train ride, a resident of Marine Parade heading to Shenton Way will just need twenty minutes by TEL. That is a paradigm-shifting game!
Finding themselves within a 10-minute walk from a TEL station extending from Woodlands North to Bayshore, around 235,000 homes will gain. For daily commutes, this implies less bother and greater convenience.
The TEL isn’t the only line showing development either. Year-end plans call for the Punggol Coast station on the North-East Line expansion opening. Easy access to the Singapore Institute of Technology Punggol campus and the upcoming Punggol Digital District will be provided here.
Future plans include for Hume Station on the Downtown Line (DTL) opening in 2025, therefore improving access to the Rail Corridor (Central). Completing Stage 5 of the TEL and the DTL extension projects, more stations—Bedok South, Sungei Bedok interchange, and Xilin—will open in 2026.
Additionally slated to open in 2026 is the East Coast Integrated Depot, with its connecting tunnels to both TEL and DTL and viaducts from the East-West Line. Additionally by 2026 three new Circle Line stations—Keppel, Cantonment, and Prince Edward—will “close the loop” between HarbourFront and Marina Bay stations.
One platform at Telok Blangah and HarbourFront stations will be temporarily closed till May to enable the works as part of these large-scale integration projects.
These advances highlight Singapore’s dedication to always improving its public transportation system so that its citizens have quicker, more practical means of getting about the island. With these amazing MRT expansions, get ready to travel into a new era!
